This is another painting that will be in the March 16th art show being put on by LimeLighter here in Calgary. The show is called ‘Intrigue’ and will feature three other artists, Gillian Mitchell (ceramics), Blake Sherman (photography) and Andreas Tiedemann (painting).
I am lucky to be sharing a beautiful tall brick wall withMonsiour Sherman, a relief as my main works for the show are the same dimensions as above. My plan is to lean these table paintings against the wall, and stand up other paintings on the top edge, that way I avoid painstaking setup - booyeah.
If you are in Calgary that night, feel free to drop by and check it out. There shall be plenty of music and such so even if you somehow hate art, you can just enjoy the tunes.

This is the largest thing I have painted thus far. Five to six feetish tall by three-ish wide. It is finished but is also only a third of the painting. I have another two tables to paint before the whole thing is done.
This is work being done for an art show coming up in March (date yet to be determined) being put on by LimeLighter, a local organization that puts on art/music shows focusing on local talents.
I will have old and new work in this show, all of my best old work, and all of my recent works which are being prepared specifically for this show.
It all ties in closely to my artist statement which I actually have never shared on here or with anyone who reads this aside from one or two. Now seems as good a time as any, and I will quote directly from my art cv….
“I seek to understand the viewer who sees abstract works of art unappealing and finding ways to connect with them; to create abstract works of art that are engaging to artists and outsiders alike.”
I do not usually post in-progress shots, but here you go. A painting in progress.

This is the cover for a graphic book I’ve been working on since September with McKinney.
In the end I decided to go no text on the cover, it’s the spine that shows up on every bookshelf, after all.
Chapter Cover: Banquet Hall by H.L. Goyer

This is a sample from my forthcoming digital art book Kingdom Square. It is the chapter cover for the chapter “Banquet Hall”.
The book will be a collection of my knowledge and experience with colour theory in an abstract expressionist format. I’ve provided myself with an extremely limited set of tools within the digital environment, and my goal is to illustrate the kingdom and all of its going ons with nothing but this same set of tools and the aforementioned knowledge.
To do this I will attempt to elicit very specific thoughts and feelings that will match the “place” as imagined by the viewer.
The Banquet Hall is a place of celebration and coming together of people to dine and make merry, retreat from the cold bite of winter and fill their bellies.
It’s the kind of thing that many people will hate, I can hear them now…. “Just a bunch of colourful squares, my dog could make this” etc.
So, if that’s the kind of book you like to have on your bookshelf, stay tuned in the coming months as I work on it and share glimpses along the way.
I will probably not actually be selling it, but you’ll still get to see some of it, so, you can dream the impossible dream.
I should also mention, following this alienating abstract project I will be commencing work on a new project specifically aimed at people who hate abstract art. I will talk in depth to many people who do, and try my best to bridge that gap.
So many people might think either it tries too hard to be overtly complicated, or is so simple it can’t be worth enjoying… really though it is both! The work that goes into it is complicated, but the outcome is always best when it is simple enough to be enjoyed for what it is.
I guess I am making it my part-time goal to convert as many people as possible to the world of abstract art appreciation.

I do not own an iPhone myself, but if you happen to pick one of these up be sure to let me know what the quality is really like.
Oh also, this deal expires tonight but you can get 25% off if you use the code BLACKFRIDAY5 at checkout.
Available at RedBubble.
Note: If there is a particular work of art you would like to see and purchase as an iPhone case, just ask and I shall deliver.
I am reblogging my own post to inform you that redbubble is offering a coupon for 15% off iPhone cases until December 15th. Simply use the coupon code: CAPSULE15 and you will be rewarded with the aforementioned discount.
Instead of that though, you should give me significantly more money for a painting or single edition digital print. After all, the iPhone will either be obsolete in a few weeks or radically redesigned to be smaller and shaped like the Apple logo.
This is my attempt at an alternate book cover for After Dark by Haruki Murakami⦠in an alternate reality where Murakami never makes it, I would still love all his works and be his devoted book cover artist/designer.

I hope that you will enjoy the light in this one, I spent a while on it.
Also, you’ll notice there is strong symmetry in this, however I must note that it was not simply mirrored, the entire composition was done by hand.
