Devon made this piece to use for practicing colour, and then I used it for that purpose as well.

The Ludvico Treatment asked me to do their new album cover. This is the one they chose.

Self-Rejected Concept Art for an album cover by H.L. Goyer for The Ludvico Treatment

-

I was thinking about how as artists we tend to share mostly what we like best, and probably never our own “rejection” pile. I decided that I would take one of my rejected concepts and see it through to the end as an experiment and share it. For me the result is the same, I still am not fond of it.

The goal here was simple, create something that would be engaging enough to the viewer to check out the music and match the tone word given to me by the band. It also had to match the overall feel of the music from the demo tracks I was handed.

Overall the tracks were more accessible than some of their earlier offerings (from the general public) and that made me think of butterflies. In the end I realized this concept I had come up with was entrenched with my own suspicions about the music industry and was too personal to me and not enough about the lyrical content on the tracks playing in my ears.

Anyways check out their music, it is quite good. Their upcoming release is a drastic shift from what you’ll hear on there pre-release though, so be sure to come back when the actual album is out. Don’t worry, you know I’ll be posting the successful cover to remind you…

Project Preview: Human Emphasis on Humans by H.L. Goyer

Mixed Media

I’ve been working this project for a while and it is now complete. It however is on-hold until I have the income to justify having prints made to push it from 99% to 100%. SO, here is 1 out of 15. You will see the rest some day.

This is another painting that will be in the March 16th art show being put on by LimeLighter here in Calgary. The show is called ‘Intrigue’ and will feature three other artists, Gillian Mitchell (ceramics), Blake Sherman (photography) and Andreas Tiedemann (painting).

I am lucky to be sharing a beautiful tall brick wall withMonsiour Sherman, a relief as my main works for the show are the same dimensions as above. My plan is to lean these table paintings against the wall, and stand up other paintings on the top edge, that way I avoid painstaking setup - booyeah.

If you are in Calgary that night, feel free to drop by and check it out. There shall be plenty of music and such so even if you somehow hate art, you can just enjoy the tunes.

If you remember my art giveaway, each person who is receiving a painting/digital prints is also going to get a drawing in this style.

And worth mentioning, coming soon are linocut prints in this same kind of style. Of course by soon you understand I mean eventually.

It is very challenging to draw a landscape from a childhood memory in a gestural style. Normally I have no trouble at all imagining movement in my head, but for some reason this scene is totally still.

Odd for me, I hate it.

I knew what it was even without the title. I love this!

Beautiful!!! Veneration at laaaastttttttttt!!!

A whole bunch more of in progress drawings. These (and all the others on business cards from before) are for an art show coming up in March (tentatively the 24th now).

I chip away at these while watching a movie or waiting for load times…

Anyhow, stay tuned for more!
